About Me

Jarkko Lehtoranta

Software professional, entrepreneur

Working in the ICT sector means constant change. Each day there’s a new issue to be resolved, bug to be filed and lesson to be learned. Staying on top of the latest technologies and developments really requires making it a lifestyle rather than just a job.

I have been studying ICT at university level and I’m constantly learning new technology through a multitude of personal projects. Furthermore, I have worked as a software developer for over five years. My whole ICT history includes building diverse things from hardware to software, soldering electronics to installing professional communication and computer hardware, installing and using various software and networking solutions to developing software in many environments. Working in both startup and corporation has given me the understanding of different organizational cultures.

As an entrepreneur I want to make my own history. I want to take part and contribute to interesting organizations and projects. I want my work to be as open and meaningful as possible over the years. I want to be able to fully utilize my diverse interests and look back at my achievements at any given point in time. I feel that for me this is the best way to stay motivated and make a difference.

I’m always keen to learn new skills and deepen my knowledge in already familiar areas. Today, one of my main interests, besides getting better at software development, is information security and white-hat hacking. Please, read about my skills and business offerings in the services section. Below is a list of my values, which characterize me as a person and which I live by.

Thorough

I rather spend an extra hour on thorough work than keep fixing it consecutively afterwards. On a broader scale, I appreciate outstanding quality be it in code, art, machines or anything else. Typos in code, reports and emails are not my thing. Especially in code I try to minimize and fix them, since they could cost a lot of debugging time later on.

Passionate

I love to focus on what I’m doing. It’s a great joy to get absorbed into meaningful work or a hobby I’m passionate about. I enjoy discussing new ideas and finding better ways to do things. What I like most about people is to see the dedication and passion they put into the things they do.

Analytical

I’m a data-driven person, who likes to search for answers and base his decisions on facts, measurements and research. In my opinion there should be an objective reasoning behind each technological choice. Additionally, they should always be kept open for discussion, since the best choice years ago might not be one today. Thus, I also value keeping up-to-date with the most recent technological advances.

Profound

I always want to understand how things work. Knowledge is valuable and it should be harvested through life. You never know, when you need something you previously ignored as irrelevant to yourself. Software development is usually much more than just writing the code. Among other things, it involves varying application fields, use cases and customer needs. Therefore, it’s often useful and time efficient to have some beforehand knowledge about the real-life applications of a project.

Business Minded

Fulfilling deals and serving clients motivates me. There’s always a clear objective and need to produce something. For me the Why matters more than the Pay. Thus, I’m also fascinated to hear about the actual issues you want to solve with a piece of software. Or you could even ask me, if it’s possible to solve a particular issue or make a process more streamlined by using software solutions.
